O’Brien’s Irish Pub & Grill

With our last name being MCLAUGHLIN we like to search out true IRISH pubs and we definitely found the real deal at O’Brien’s – Irish Pub & Grill in Brandon, Fl.  The food was good, the service excellent and it’s an all around neighborhood pub where you can meet new friends or enjoy a ‘pint’ with old ones! Cooper’s Hawk Winery, Tampa, Fl.

Cooper's Hawk Winery, Tampa2Visit Cooper’s Hawk Winery in Tampa, Fl. and find an array of wines to fit anyone’s pallet. The wines are amazing, service is impeccable, food is fantastic, and prices are reasonable!

A great way to spend an evening whether meeting new friends at the wine bar or having a delicious meal in the dining room.

When I was there, I tried the ‘flight’ which was a wonderful way of tasting different types of wine and then deciding which one I liked the best. I also joined their Wine Club which is designed to help explore, share and pair wines with remarkable food. Each month you have the option of picking up your favorite bottle of wine or having it shipped directly to your door! How easy is that!

Donation to a Worthy Cause

IMG_9358I had the pleasure of being with    Sue & Pete Shields, Owners of S&S Tropical Group Rentals, who made a generous donation to the Anna Maria Privateers. Their donation will help fund scholarships and kid’s organizations.

The Privateers really get in the ‘mood’ dressing in Privateer attire! The “ship” can been seen around the Island for various events. Pub Crawls are a blast!  This is a non-profit organization and the crew members go out of their way to make every event fun! You never know when you will see the “Skullywag  Ship” driving down the highway, but when you do – Wave!

Tibby’s is the most ‘fun’ place to enjoy New Orleans culture and food! Along SR60 in Brandon, Florida sits a unique, colorful New Orleans restaurant. From the time you enter you feel like you are actually in New Orleans! The food is great, service wonderful and the pictures and artifacts are straight from New Orleans. Some pieces are salvaged from the destruction by Katrina. These pictures don’t do the restaurant justice. You have to visit to appreciate the décor. Menu includes dishes like Muffaletta spring rolls, Alligator Street Tacos, Rita’s Lemon Chicken, and of course etouffe, shrimp creole with red beans and rice! Yum

Tibby’s is located at 1721 W Brandon Blvd., Brandon, Fl.  33511

Christmas in Tampa, Fl.

20171217_190234When the temperature outside is 80 degrees in December, we head to Tampa’s Riverwalk to get in the Christmas mood! The Riverwalk was amazing last night with all the lights reflecting off the water. The Riverwalk extends 2.4 miles along the Hillsborough River and the Tampa Arts District.   A great way to work off those extra pounds from all the holiday parties!

Florida Gulf Coast Railroad Museum

Located off Rte 301 in Parrish, Fl., on 83rd St. E, just behind the old Post Office sits “Florida’s Home of Railroad History”.  Ride the exhibits during the ‘themed’ train rides. Events like The North Pole Express, Christmas Party Caboose, Murder Mystery Train in Feb. and March and the Parrish chili cook-off, also in March, are  popular attractions. The museum is open Wednesday’s through Sundays beginning Jan. 2, 2018 year round and the train rides operate Saturday and Sundays. The railroad operates on a six-mile line between Parrish and Willow, Florida. A fun way to learn about Florida’s railroad history.  The Christmas Party Caboose is sold out, however; the Murder Mystery Dinner Train still has tickets available online for $49.50 for Feb. 10th.  Checkout the events online and purchase tickets. Hurry, they go fast!

Doesn’t this look warm and inviting?

20171201_1918241559599357.jpgThis is how we spend an evening in Florida! Outdoor seating with a fire pit in the center of the table to take the ‘chill’ off, at Mattison’s City Grille. Great food, reasonable prices and the tropical drinks aren’t bad either! After dinner we strolled down to the Riverwalk to listen to the Blues Festival which began Friday evening and went on through the weekend. A lot of folks were ‘Out and About’!

John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Circus Museum, Ca’d’Zan and the Historic Asolo Theater, Sarasota Bay, Fl.

While visiting Florida this is definitely a ‘must-see’ . These 66 acres are home to six extraordinary venues of history and art and sit alongside the Sarasota Bay with beautiful scenic views. Don’t miss the Circus Museum. It is amazing! You feel like you are part of the real circus when you hear all the sound effects of the horses, the ring leaders with their whips, and the crowds cheering – all while you are walking through the museum. And, you can tour the magnificent 56-room mansion and feel as though you have been transported back to the Roaring Twenties. There is a lot to see so wear comfortable shoes and plan to spend the day or come back two days. The Asolo Repertory Theater is the largest Equity theatre in Florida, and the largest Repertory theatre in the Southeastern US. There is a café on the premise serving food and beverages so take a break and relax in the shade! Plan to go early, as there is so much to see.

The Ringling is located on 5401 Bayshore Rd., Sarasota, Fl. 34243
